Building

Purpose
The Building Department enforces the Zoning Ordinance of the Township of Millburn and the Uniform Construction Code of the State of New Jersey. Zoning approval and related construction permits are required for most projects. Please contact the Building Department if you are unsure as to what approvals and permits will be required for your planned projects.

General Information
The Building Department is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Zoning information, construction permit application forms, inspection schedules, and related literature are available from the Building Department counter. These resources are to assist in the filing of permit applications. The Building Department is located on the 1st floor of the Municipal Building, which is located at 375 Millburn Avenue. Visitor parking is provided in designated spaces in the adjacent Municipal parking lot on Millburn Avenue.

Zoning Ordinance
The Zoning Ordinance is administrated by the Zoning Official, and issues zoning permits for all site improvements, as well as all necessary zoning approvals required prior to the issuance of a Construction Permit. The Zoning Official is the Administrator for the Millburn Township Board of Adjustment. Zoning approvals are required for all exterior building and site improvements and for all changes in use or tenancy of any rental space, building, or property.

Uniform Construction Code
The Uniform Construction Code is administrated by the Construction Official, and includes the Building, Electrical, Plumbing, and Fire Subcode Officials and Inspectors, which serve to enforce the various codes adopted by the Uniform Construction Code. Construction permits are required for most projects in strict accordance with the requirements of the State of New Jersey Uniform Construction Code, N.J.A.C. 5:23.
