The Millburn Fire Department celebrated it’s 125th Anniversary on April 21,2001. From the earliest days in 1876, ten volunteers banded together to form a bucket brigade known as “Volunteer Company #1”. Today, the department protects of community of approximately 20,000 residents with 47 career and 14 volunteer professionals out of two stations. Headquarters located at 459 Essex Street in Millburn and Station #2 located at 315 White Oak Ridge Road in Short Hills. Responding to an average of 2,000 calls per year. Each firefighter is trained and certified in Firefighting I & II, First Responder Medical Care, CPR, Incident Command levels 100 & 200, Hazardous Materials, Awareness and Operational Levels, Mass Decontamination, and specialize in Radiological Decontamination for Essex County.

Mission Statement:
To provide a comprehensive emergency service which is designed to enhance our community through public education, code enforcement and emergency response. We are dedicated to protecting life, property and the environment.

Emergency Response Services:
- fires in structures, vehicles, brush fires
- leaking fluids & vapors
- explosions
- General Rescues, household, water, high angle & confined space.
- arching, low hanging, burning or downed wires.
- vehicle accidents with entrapment, injuries & fluid spills
- building collapse or partial collapse
- automatic fire alarms including street pull boxes.
- medical emergencies

Non-emergency Response Services:
- Investigation of strange odors, noises or other conditions
- Assist residents locked out of their homes.
- pump water out of homes.
- Provide emergency lighting and electrical power in emergencies.
- Assist homebound residents with household challenges.
- remove dangerous conditions on location.

Community Programs:
- Sponsor Open House to the entire community in October.
- Sponsor Annual Halloween Parade
- Co-sponsor Annual Memorial Day Parade and Easter Egg Hunt
- Provide fire prevention presentations to various groups on all topics:
- Dormitory safety for college bound students
- Surviving a Hotel/Motel Fire
- Fire Safety for Seniors
- Fire extinguisher training
- Coordinate Township Code RED notification system.
- Coordinate the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)
