Old Short Hills Road Culvert Replacement

WHAT

A culvert replacement and channel reconstruction project is scheduled for Old Short Hills Road this year. The project will include installation of a new headwall, open channel reconstruction, a new e-inlet and paving. 

WHEN

Work is scheduled to officially kick on Monday, August 12 and run through September, weather permitting. Regular work hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The contractor will be on-site Friday, August 2 digging test pits before work begins.

WHERE

The culvert is located on Old Short Hills Road. Road closures are expected and detour signs will be posted in the area during the length of the project. Emergency vehicles will be permitted to pass through the work zone.

Project Update 8/16

Excavation work is planned for Tuesday, August 20 to relocate PSE&G gas lines as part of the culvert replacement project on Old Short Hills Road between Parsonage Hill Road and Jefferson Ave.

Old Short Hills Road will be closed to traffic in both directions. Please follow posted detour signs and plan for traffic delays in the area.

Project Update 8/23

Old Short Hills Rd. will undergo a hard road closure from 8:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. on August 26th between the intersections of Jefferson Ave. and Farley Rd.  A detour will be noticed at Farley Rd.

The Township is closing the road overnight to prevent multiple days of traffic impact during the day and to ensure that work will be completed prior to the opening of school.

Please plan an alternate route during this time. Emergency responders have been notified of the closure. We appreciate everyone’s patience as the project wraps up.

Project Update 9/4

Weather permitting, the Old Short Hills Road culvert replacement project is now expected to be completed by end of September. Limited road closures are expected while culvert replacement and paving work continues. One lane of traffic is expected to be open during the work. Specific road closure alerts related to the project will be shared via the Township website and SwiftReach.
