Construction work on the Short Hills Avenue Bridge begins today, December 8. This phase of the project will include removal and demolition of the existing culvert and foundation and is expected to last approximately two weeks. Upon completion of the removal of the exiting Short Hills Culvert structure, a new 16” watermain will be installed beneath the structure, which will be followed by the installation of the new precast concrete culvert structure that will be placed on top of newly constructed concrete footings.
The project also includes roadway construction, drainage improvements, new sidewalks, and concrete curb installations. Due to the nature of the work involved, the amount of workers and machinery required, full road closure 24/7 will be necessary in the area of work to optimize the safety of the work crews and motoring public alike

Bridge work is expected to begin on or about Wednesday, December 1, weather permitting.
Due to structural damage, the bridge on Short Hills Avenue from Woodstone Circle to Forest Drive in Millburn/Springfield is scheduled to undergo a long term closure beginning July 16. Concrete barriers will be placed across the roadway at both ends of the structure to prevent errant vehicles from entering the work area.
A detour route will be signed for the duration of the road closure as Short Hills Avenue will not be accessible for thru traffic into Springfield. Please plan accordingly! For more information and a detailed map please click here.
The project, which is being run by Union County, will completely replace the existing bridge with a new bridge.
