Essex County has announced it is beginning its Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP) update for 2020. The HMP is updated every five years, with the goal of saving lives and property through the reduction of hazard vulnerability.
During the planning phase of the project, the county looks to local leaders and communities to assist in identifying risks, assessing current capabilities and formulating a sound strategy to reduce disaster vulnerability.
The county has developed a Citizen Preparedness Survey to assist in providing the public an outlet to contribute to the HMP update. The survey is completely anonymous and its data will be used to develop portions of the plan.
