Millburn Library to Begin Bookdrop Returns on June 16 and Contactless Pickup Service on June 17

The Millburn Free Public Library is set to begin Phase 2 of their reopening plan in accordance with Governor Murphy’s June 12th announcement for libraries. First, on Tuesday June 16th, the Library will begin accepting returns of previously checked out items through their bookdrop. The bookdrop has been closed since the Library closed its building on March 13 to ensure the health and safety of customers and staff. Since that time, customers have been encouraged to use the Library’s vast collection of digital books and resources.

Next, beginning Wednesday June 17th, the Library will launch their contactless holds pickup service, allowing Millburn Library cardholders to pick up a maximum of 5 Millburn Library items they have placed on hold (either online via or over the phone). Holds must be placed 24 hours in advance. Customers will be able to approach the south-facing entrance vestibule (closest to the commuter railroad) where they can present their library card or simply give Library staff the name used to place their holds. All other physical services remain suspended and customers will not be permitted to enter the building at this time. Customers are required to wear a mask and maintain social distancing when visiting the building. The Library will be open Mon - Fri 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m during this phase of reopening.

During this phase of service, all returns must be placed in the outdoor bookdrop. Returned items will be retrieved from the bookdrop and quarantined for 72 hours before being checked back into the Library’s collection

The health and safety of customers and staff are our primary concern. MFPL has developed new safety procedures for receiving and lending materials, as well as assisting customers. Staff are being trained on these new procedures as well as the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Additional services will resume when permitted and as circumstances allow.
